Welcome, 2015!

We kicked off the New Year like we do every year- celebrating our sweet Sydney's birthday!  She turned FIVE this year and had a Frozen party at Danik gymnastics where she got to play with all of her friends and get spoiled with gifts.  For her actual birthday the four of us went to the "Bowling Shop" which is really Big Al's game arcade, but they call it the Bowling Shop, and Sydney in particular LOVES it because she gets to pick out a piece of candy with the accumulated tickets at the end of our visit...and really, what's better than candy?  Gramma and Grampa started a new grandkid tradition this year where they do an activity with the kids instead of giving them more stuff.  I love the idea, and so do they.  Sydney chose to go to the Aquarium where they spent 2.5 hours (HOW?) and then out for ribs at Goodwood, the only place she requests when she knows Grampa is buying.  Man we've trained her well.  ;)

Five looks good on little Sydney.  Mostly because she has the height to go with it and the sass as well.  Seriously though, she is an amazing little lady.  She has questions beyond my answers, a knack for hearing a song once or twice and being able to recite it, a yearning for crafts so great that I feel badly for her that I'm her Mom and don't plan them weekly.  She is a ridiculously awesome big sister and has earned and well deserves the immense love Simone has for her.  She wants to wear makeup yesterday, thinks dressing fancy is the only way to dress and hardly leaves home without a necklace or chap stick on.  She loves preschool and the friends she has made.  She is a little jelly belly at times and likes her one-on-one time with people...sharing friends is hard for her, but we're working on it.  She is a night time cuddle bug and that's the only time you're going to get it.  She wakes up in the morning and goes downstairs to help herself to some dry cereal and her coloring books not even bothering to wake me or say good morning.  She loves to play games, matching being her favorite and honestly- she rocks at it.  I don't even try to let her win, she just does.  She thinks being an adult will be way better than being a kid, because then she can choose when she goes to bed every night and how often she can chew gum.  She's a wonderful daughter and we're blessed to call her ours.

Later on in January we went sledding with my brothers family and had SO much fun.  We opted to go to the Eagle Rec Park that just opened this year and go down their tubing hill instead of driving into the mountains hoping for a place to sled that won't land you in the middle of traffic.  We'll be back next year for certain!

What else....skiing continued into January but then the warm February ruined any future outings for the two.  Sydney fell backwards onto Grampa's coffee table and had to get a staple...and was a champ about the whole thing.  She didn't cry one tear at the doctor when he stapled.
Night skiing rocks!

Elsa is still BIG here.  I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Is there anything sweeter than a conked babe?

This little love.

Oh my goodness, your description of Sydney was so sweet, so honest, and so right on. I never knew a girl who wants to be a grown up like this one does. It will sure come in handy though when Cole comes around ... you can just tell her grown-ups do the laundry, change poopy diapers, cook over a hot stove all day, and mop floors. I'll bet she'll just be ready to be big sister. You are going to have your time with her though because she wants to, and thinks she can, carry that baby! Should be interesting. Great post Meg.
